Vmware consolidating snapshots
After consolidation, redundant disks are removed, which improves virtual machine performance and saves storage space.
The presence of redundant delta disks can adversely affect virtual machine performance.
Further to that, I thought I’d cover a bit on Snapshot Consolidation With v Sphere 5, a new feature was added to allow you to consolidate snapshots.
This was done to address an issue where, when doing a snapshot removal, the delta files would not be merged with the base disk but would be removed from visibility in the v Sphere client.

You should immediately get the ‘needs consolidation’ message in the v Sphere client.
The snapshot Consolidation command searches for hierarchies or delta disks to combine without violating data dependency.
