Version numbers are clearly indicated so you know which version you're currently using and what the updated version is.
Install one of these freeware software updaters and it will first automatically identify all of your software and then determine if an update is available.
Then, depending on the updater, will either point you to the newer download on the developer's site or maybe even do the downloading and updating for you!

To find updates for i Movie, Garageband, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and other apps that were downloaded separately from the App Store, open the App Store on your Mac, then click the Updates tab.
