I want to create a WIFI widget that will display the SSID, the RSSI (Signal) level.

But I also want to be able to send it data from a service I am running that calculates the Quality of Sound over wifi.

Also is there a better approach to updating the the widget rather than using a timer and timertask?

It just shows the temperature for the last time I opened the app. Here is what I have after some reading and a quick tutorial: public class Wlan Widget extends App Widget Provider{ Remote Views remote Views; App Widget Manager app Widget Manager; Component Name this Widget; Wifi Manager wifi Manager; public void on Update(Context context, App Widget Manager app Widget Manager, int[] app Widget Ids) private class Wlan Timer extends Timer Task The above seems to work ok, it updates the SSID on the widget every 10 seconds. However what is the most efficent way to get the information from my service that will be already running to update periodically on my widget? If you hibernate those apps then they won't be able to update because they are not running in the background Clear the cache and the data for the widget apps in the settings and also for the launcher you're using. But after a time the widget would probably crash or something (not visible though), and other widgets stopped too.Remove it from the home screen then put it back also clear the weather apps cache then if it keeps doing that check in your settings that your weather app is whitelisted to not be put to sleep by the system as that is the most likely reason for a widget to not update properly.
